Demonstration of painting "Up the steps" in watercolour on paper

1. I draw the steps and surrounds on to light layout paper to the size of the stretched
    watercolour paper. It is at the drawing stage that I can make all my mistakes.
    Once it is pertect, I trace it down, using graphite transfer paper.
2. I mask out the horizon with masking fluid.
3. I lay in the sky using several washes of Antwerp blue and Cobalt blue and rub
    off the masking solution.
4. I start the left hand side of the stairs, using a mix of Warm sepia and Cobalt blue.
5. I start to put in the front of the stairs using a mix of Warm sepia, Cobalt blue and
    Burnt sienna.
6. I start to lay in the earth, using a wash of Burnt sienna.
7.I put in the details, the cast shadows and the plants, using sap green for

   the plants and a mix of Warm sepia and Ultramarine for the shadows.
8. Now I put in the surrounding earth, using a wash of Burnt sienna.
9. In go the details, shadows and plants, using Sap green for the plants
    and a mix of Warm sepia and Ultramarine for the shadows.
10. The finished painting, I have finished the tops of the steps using a wash

      a mix of Warm sepia and Ultramarine, very dark for the shadows.
